Ex-Director of PNB testifies he investigated a PNB Constable for links with 'Wele Suda'

Colombo (News 1st); Ex-DIG Nalaka De Silva who was in-charge of the Police Narcotic Bureau at one point, told the Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar on Wednesday (08) he launched an investigation with regard to officers at the PNB passing on information to notorious drug trafficker 'Wele Suda'.

He said the investigation was on information leaks with regard to raids planned by the Police Narcotic Bureau to arrest drug traffickers.

De Silva made this testimony when the matter relating to shooting dead 08 inmates at the Welikada Prison in 2012, also known as the Welikada Prison Massacre, was called up in court.

The case was filed against three defendants including the IP Neomal Rangajeewa who once served as the OIC of the Police Narcotic Bureau.

During the cross examination by Kalinga Indatissa PC, Nalaka De Silva said during his short stint as Director of the Police Narcotic Bureau he investigated a police constable identified as Aruna Shantha.

De Silva said during the process of inquiry he uncovered telephone conversations made between Police Constable Aruna Shantha and notorious drug trafficker 'Wele Suda'.
