Colombo (News 1st); 56 inmates at the Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre in Kandakadu have tested positive for COVID-19, said Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe.
The Government Information Department said 450 inmates and staff at the Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre – Kandakadu were subjected to PCR tests after one person who was held at the premises and moved to the Welikada Prison tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.
It added the Welikada COVID-19 case was held at the Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre – Kandakadu for almost three months.
In addition, a counsellor at the Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre – Kandakadu tested positive for COVID-19 and she was located from Marawila on Thursday (09) morning.
The Government Information Department said PCR tests are being carried out and quarantine measures are in place.
