Colombo (News 1st);  An inmate held at the Welikada Prison tested positive for COVID-19, confirmed Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe.

The inmate was held at the Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre in Kandakadu and was transferred to the Welikada Prison on the 27th of June, said the Government Information Department.

An official statement said PCR tests are being carried out on all contacts of the COVID-19 patient and a quarantine process is also in place.

It added Inmates and Prison Officials will also be subject to tests.
