Wanted Police Narcotic Bureau Inspector handed over to CID for Investigations

Colombo (News 1st);  IP Saman Wasantha Kumara, wanted by detectives with regard to an on-going investigation on a drug trafficking operation at the Police Narcotic Bureau, surrendered to the Kadawatha Police today.

Police Spokesperson SSP Jaliya Senaratne speaking to News 1st said the suspect was handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department for further investigations.

The National Police Commission informed the Acting Inspector General of Police to submit a report on the incident at the Police Narcotic Bureau.

The NPC said it called for the final report of the preliminary investigations adding a decision will be made on taking disciplinary action against the police officers involved based on the findings of the report.

The National Police Commission said 15 Police Narcotic Bureau Officers arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department were interdicted.

The interdicted officers are a Police Inspector, 02 Police Sub-Inspectors, 05 Police Sergeants, and 07 Police Constables.

In addition, three vehicles seized by the CID from the interdicted PNB officers were directed to the Government Analyst to investigate if the vehicles were used to transport drugs.
