Crocodile attacks kills police officer in Matara

COLOMBO (News1st): A police officer has died after being attacked by a crocodile at the Nilwala river in Matara on Wednesday. Athula Wadanambi, 54, had been attacked when attempting to recover a mobile phone of his friend that had fallen into the river. He had been on leave from duty owing to illness. "He told me he felt a crocodile was pulling him from his legs and went underwater. I did not see anything thereafter," his friend said recalling the tragedy. The body of the deceased officer who is a father of four is yet to be recovered.
