COLOMBO (News 1st): The acceptance of the "Secure Packets containing Postal Voting Ballot Papers" of the 2020 Parliamentary Election, to the Department of Posts will be carried out today and tomorrow, Post Master General, Ranjith Ariyaratne said on Wednesday (July 1). The acceptance of "Secure Packets containing Postal Voting Ballot Papers" of the 2020 Parliamentary Election began on Tuesday (June 29). "The process of accepting 'Secure Packets containing Postal Voting Ballot Papers' is usually concluded within one day, but given the COVID-19 situation the acceptance takes more time than usual, as the process is underway in compliance of health guidelines," Ariyaratne told News 1st on Wednesday. The Post Master General further noted that the distribution of "Secure Packets containing Postal Voting Ballot Papers" has also begun, adding the distribution will conclude prior to the date of postal voting. On Sunday (June 28), a group of employees at the Central Mail Exchange launched a strike action. "The strike was launched over the decision taken to move the task of accepting the 'Secure Packets containing Postal Voting Ballot Papers' of the 2020 Parliamentary Election, to the Havelock Town office," H.K. Kariyawasam - the General Secretary of the Union of Posts & Telecommunication Officers said on Monday (June 29).
