COLOMBO (News 1st): Islandwide operations are underway to monitor those who fail to wear face masks in public places as instructed by health authorities, to prevent further spread of COVID-19, the Police Headquarters announced.
“Such operations will be carried out during this week starting June 29th, covering all police jurisdictions, based on instructions from the Acting Inspector General of Police,” Police Media Spokesperson, SSP Jaliya Senaratne said on Monday (June 29).
Accordingly, names and addresses of those who fail to adhere by these regulations in public places will be recorded and they will be informed on following quarantine regulations, by the respective police stations.
SSP Jaliya Senaratne said, “OICs of all police stations across the island have been instructed to advise those who fail to wear face masks in public places.”
He went onto note that as the risk of a resurgence of COVID-19 within the community has not been eliminated completely, the general public should remain vigilant and act in adherence to quarantine and health regulations.
“The general public is requested to wear face masks when visiting public places for one’s own safety and the safety of others,” SSP Senaratne emphasized.
