COLOMBO (News1st): Wildlife officers have launched a probe into the death of an elephant that was shot dead in Ambanpola recently. There were two gun shot wounds -- on the shoulder and the head -- on the elephant identified as a 25-year old, wildlife officers said on Sunday. The carcass of the animal was discovered from the forest reserve of the Inginimitiya tank in Ambanpola. A postmortem examination will be conducted on Monday by Isuru Hewakottage, the veterinarian of the Nikaweratiya zone.
