75% of construction sites in Sri Lanka are breeding grounds for Dengue: Health Ministry

COLOMBO (News 1st): Dengue mosquito larvae are discovered from 75% of construction sites in the country, according to the Ministry of Health. "People residing within close proximity to such construction sites are at high risk of Dengue," the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Friday (June 26). Thereby, the Ministry has requested the general public to pay attention to the matter and take relevant action to eradicate Dengue mosquitoes. According to the Health Ministry, a Dengue eradication program is currently underway across multiple areas in the country. "The program will be carried out focusing on the areas that come under the purview of the Colombo Municipal Council and the district of Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha, Galle, Matara, and Kandy," said the Ministry of Health. As of Friday (June 26), the latest figures published by the Epidemiology Unit at the Ministry of Health show that during the course of this year, a total of 21,478 Dengue patients were reported in Sri Lanka. Of the total Dengue cases for this year, the majority of 3,095 were reported in the Colombo district, followed by over 2000 cases each from Batticaloa and Trincomalee, according to data from the Epidemiology Unit.
