COLOMBO (News1st): The constitutional council has approved the appointments of Dr Ranee Jayamaha and Samantha Kumarasinghe to the monetary board of the central bank.
The names had been nominated by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and had been approved unanimously, the parliament's communication department said in a statement.
Dr Jayamaha once served as the central bank deputy governor and also the chairman of a private bank, while Kumarasinghe holds the experience of serving as an industrialist and an exporter.
Two seats in the five-member monetary board had fallen vacant after the resignation of Dushni Weerakoon and Nihal Fonseka in May.
Members of the monetary board are appointed for a period of six years.
