Colombo (News 1st) A US Embassy Official in response to a question posed by News 1st said the Government of Sri Lanka has asked for time to review the MCC agreement, and the U.S. is respecting that request.
The US Embassy Officials said the funds will not remain available for Sri Lanka indefinitely, however.
The response noted, outside factors and realities are always changing, which can influence the availability of an MCC grant, including Sri Lanka’s graduation to upper-middle-income status.
It added there are also other eligible partner countries actively requesting MCC grant funding for their economic development priorities, especially now as economies around the world try to recover from COVID-19.
The US Embassy response noted there will only ever be two MCC officials in Sri Lanka, as the grant will be implemented and overseen by a Sri Lankan program management unit and Sri Lankan Board of Directors, if signed.
