COLOMBO (News 1st): The government has decided to provide relief to Local Government Institutions which have faced financial problems due to coronavirus.

According to the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, about 50 percent of local government bodies are in financial crisis due to the imposition of curfew.

There are 347 local government bodies in the country.

“The local authorities have been instructed to submit a report to the ministry on the financial issues faced during this period,” according to the Ministry of Public Administration.

The relevant relief measures will be provided after obtaining such reports through the Local Government Commissioners.
