Ombudsman appointed to act upon public complaints

COLOMBO (News1st): Retired senior DIG S.M. Wickramasinghe has been appointed as an ombudsman to inquire into public complaints and grievances, the President's Office said in a statement. "The Ombudsman's Office will inquire and provide solutions in the event of any inconvenience caused to the public due to the negligent conduct of state officials while exercising administrative powers," the statement read. Complaints can include large scale narcotics rackets, environmental destruction or unlawful acts, according to the President's Office. The public will be able to file complaints by visiting the Ombudsman's Office that has been set-up on the 3rd floor of the old Standard Chartered Bank building along Janadhipathi Mawatha in Colombo 01. Complaints can also be filed through fax on 011-2338073, by email to [email protected], or by post to "The Ombudsman's Office, Presidential Secretariat, Colombo 01", the statement added.
