DMC geared up to face any disaster situation due to inclement weather

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Disaster Management Centre says it is ready to face any disaster situation which could arise due to the prevailing rainy weather patterns. Director General of the DMC Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe speaking to reporters Wednesday (May 27) morning said 08 separate districts are monitored closely. "The DMC is taking necessary measures and has issued instructions, to tackle with floods and landslides along with COVID-19 and the risk of Dengue as well," said Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe on Wednesday. He further said all relief centers will be in operation this year under medical instructions. At relief centers people will be registered first, and other general health instructions such as, washing hands, use of hand sanitizer and wearing face masks should be followed 100%. Major General Ranasinghe also said relief centers will be inspected by Public Health Inspectors twice a day, adding temperatures of those at the relief centers will be checked every morning and evening. He went on to note people are advised to visit their relatives' places as a precautionary measure and keep relief centers as the last option, because if one person tests positive for the virus, the entire relief center will have to undergo quarantine.
