Special commodity levy on several products hiked

COLOMBO (News1st) : The special commodity levy on at least 26 varieties of products has been hiked for six months with effect from May 22, 2020, the finance ministry said. Products such as yogurt, big onions, garlic, dhal, margarine, canned fish, sugar, and fruits are among the products for which the levy has been increased. Accordingly, the special commodity levy for yogurt stands at Rs 800 while the levy for margarine stands at Rs 650, and Rs 50 for big onions.
