CID launches an investigation regarding a fake letter with the official letter head of the President's Media Division on social media

The Criminal Investigations Department has launched a special investigation on the spread of a fake letter on social media, with the official letterhead of the President's Media Division. The letter claiming that the Government has decided to grant a salary allowance for Sri Lankans overseas, to ease their financial difficulties caused in line with the COVID-19 pandemic, went viral on social media. The letter also contained a request for bank details of Sri Lankans overseas. The President's Media Division in its official Twitter handle said the letter was fake. A political group is behind this act of spreading the particular fake letter to Social Media users, the tweet further added. CID is already conducting a special investigation regarding this, Police said.
