Colombo (News 1st); General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Dayasiri Jayasekera said the National Elections Commission has the final say in postponing elections and how it would take place.
Speaking after a meeting at the National Elections Commission on Tuesday the SLFP General Secretary said despite life returning to normal across the island, it is questionable if this is the correct time to call for elections.
He said similar sentiments were shared by the representatives of other political parties as well.
Dayasiri Jayasekera said the people too, are not in a mindset to exercise their franchise adding preferential vote numbers should not be given at this time.
UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said almost all parties raised concerns in calling for elections at this time adding it is impossible for parties and candidates to campaign for the polls.
