138 people moved into quarantine from many areas

More than 300 sailors contracted COVID-19; Over 4000 people undergoing quaranine

Colombo (News 1st); A total of 138 people were moved in to quarantine facilities from multiple areas in the country, today.

Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said 29 people from Bandaranaikapura, Rajagiriya, and 27 people from Kolonnawa who associated COVID-19 patients detected from those respective areas were moved into immediate quarantine.

In addition, 67 people who associated a COVID-19 patient detected from Kandy were moved into quarantine by the Sri Lanka Army.

A group of 210 Sri Lankans would arrive tomorrow from the United Kingdown, said Lt. General Shavendra Silva adding the group includes students and government officials.

Lt. General Shavendra Silva who is also the Chief of the National Operations Centre for Preventing COVID-19 said all arrivals would be subject to mandatory quarantine.

Today 47 people who completed the quarantine period at military-operated facilities were released following PCR tests.

The Army Commander said as of today 5089 people were released from quarantine facilities after completing the mandatory quarantine period.

4883 people are currently undergoing quarantine across 39 facilities operated by the three armed forces.

31 of the 33 people who tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday are gallant sailors attached to the Welisara Naval Complex of the Sri Lanka Navy.

In total 329 sailors of the Sri Lanka Navy had contracted coronavirus.
