COLOMBO (News 1st): A discussion will be held at the Ministry of Labour on Tuesday (05th May), regarding the situation that has arisen due to the closure of factories and institutions in line with the curfew imposed in the country in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Secretary to the Ministry, Sarath Abhayagunawardena said the discussion will be held with the participation of the Task Force established at the Ministry. According to Abhayagunawardena the Task Force comprises of representatives from Workers trade unions, Employers Associations and government officials. Abhayagunawardena noted, the provision of relief to private sector employees, who have lost their employment given the situation, will also be taken up for discussion on Tuesday. "The focus of the discussion will be on the suitable relief that can be provided to the affected workers avoiding legal proceedings," said Abhayagunawardena. Meanwhile, the Department of Labour has extended the period for the survey to collect information regarding factories and institutions that are affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic, till the 15th of May.
