Sri Lanka to boost its PCR testing capacity to combat COVID-19

Colombo (News 1st);  Director-General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe said 1075 PCR tests were carried out at laboratories in the country, yesterday alone.

He said a person tested positive for COVID-19 in Dabare Mawatha, Narahenpita 100 people were subject to tests and all of them tested negative for the virus. Dr. Anil Jasinghe said PCR testing will commence at the Batticaloa Hospital for tomorrow, further boosting the country's testing capacity. The University of Colombo, the University of Kelaniya, and the University of Peradeniya would start using their PCR testing equipment to conducts tests, in a bid to support the efforts taken to combat COVID-19, under the direct supervision of the Health Ministry. A decision in this respect was taken at a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister.
