Sri Lanka Army replaces Police to maintain external security of Parliament

Colombo (News 1st); The administration authority of Parliament confirmed the Sri Lanka Army was assigned for external security of the Parliamentary complex premises. This move was taken as Sri Lanka Police was deployed for operations on controlling the spread of the Coronavirus. The Parliament Administration said 120-man strong police force which was assigned to Parliament was removed and replaced by personnel from the Sri Lanka Army. However, Sri Lanka Police continues to maintain the internal security of Parliament. Military Spokesperson Brigadier Chandana Wickremesinghe speaking to News 1st said army soldiers will only be assigned for external security.
