News 1st (Colombo): The Extraordinary Gazette notification declaring that the General Election will be held on the 20th of June 2020 has been published.

Chairman of the National Election Commission (NEC) announced earlier today (20) that the election will be held on the 20th of June. It was to be held on the 25th of April but was postponed due to the current situation in the country.

The decision to conduct the poll in June had been reached during a special meeting held with the presence of the three members of the commission and other stakeholders today.

Incidentally, the date that has been gazetted to hold the 2020 General Election is also the birthday of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
