The Presidential Task Force on Essential Services said yesterday that Sri Lanka has agreed to supply face masks and gloves to the UN Children’s Fund or the UNICEF for the next three months. In a statement, the Task Force said it had held talks with UNICEF representatives, UN Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer and officials from the garment industry, in this regard. During the discussion, UNICEF had said that it requires one million gloves, and 10 million face masks every week. Accordingly, a committee headed by the Board of Investment had been set up to coordinate the manufacturing process with garment factories. The committee will also be tasked with the process of selling these products to the UNICEF and to evaluate their quality.
