President explores possibility of resuming daily activities at provincial levels

COLOMBO (News1st): President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has explored the possibility of resuming daily economic activities at provincial levels, while the country continues to grapple with the outbreak of COVID - 19. The President in a meeting on Wednesday had called on provincial health directors to provide their recommendations on continuing operations in the industrial, agricultural and business sectors. "Decisions to relax current restrictions will be taken only after considerations of health situation at each provincial level," a statement issued by the President's Office read. Sri Lanka has reported seven deaths due to the virus, while the number of total infections stands at 235, among which 63 have recovered. Matters concerning identifying infected patients on a daily basis and the current conditions at quarantine centers had figured during the meeting, the statement added. Provincial health authorities had said that measures taken by the government to combat the coronavirus were effective compared to other countries, the President's Office noted.
