Colombo (News 1st) ;  Minister Wimal Weerawansa gifted a new drone to Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army and Head at the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) for use in ongoing Army COVID-19 control.

According to the Sri Lanka Army website, the Commander of the Army intends to establish a surveillance unit using this donated drone in future.

He emphasized the importance of it and thanked the timely donation of these equipment particularly in the prevention of COVID-19-affected villages for observation of the movements.

Minister Weerawansha expressing his appreciation on the exceptional Army role assured his support to the Army in future too.
