COLOMBO (News1st): The government on Saturday announced that schools will be reopened for their second term on May 11, revising its decision to reopen schools on April 20.

The President’s Office, in a statement, said that this decision had been made while considering the safety of students as the country continues to combat the novel coronavirus.

The statement noted that arrangements have been made to conduct study sessions using remote communication methods.

Earlier this week, the education ministry said that the advice of health officials would be sought before reopening schools for their second terms.

The President’s Office stated that the date to re-open universities will be decided after consulting university officials and the University Grants Commission.
