COLOMBO (News1st) : The near shore sea areas in certain parts of the country may experience surges due to the swelling of waves until 2 pm tomorrow, the meteorological department said in an advisory on Wednesday. The region of the sea close to the coast from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota may experience surges as waves can swell upto two or 2.5 metres in height, the advisory read. "There is a possibility that these waves may reach the land," Pradeep Kodippili, Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre said. He noted that around 64 houses along this coastal belt had been affected due to this today. The DMC Deputy Director added that arrangements have been made to provide affected residents with food and other essential items. Naval and fishing communities and those who are living in coastal areas are also requested to be vigilant in this regards.
