COLOMBO (News 1st) - Officials from Sri Lanka Railways stated that steps have been taken to import 10,000 rail tracks to replace the deteriorating sections on the Coastal Railway Line.

The shipment of rail tracks is scheduled to arrive in the country next month.

Officials from Sri Lanka Railways noted that speed restrictions have been imposed between Panadura and Fort on the Coastal Rail Line due to the deterioration of rail tracks, causing train delays.

With the importation of new rail tracks, around 70% of existing speed restrictions on the Coastal Line are expected to be removed by December this year.

Meanwhile, officials also stated that tenders will be awarded next month for the renovation of seven railway bridges along the Coastal Line.

Renovations will be done to Railway Bridges at Kompannavidiya, Wellawatte, Pinwatta, Aluthgama, Induruwa, Gintota, Dodanduwa, and Hikkaduwa.
