COLOMBO (News1st): Public Health Inspector (PHI)'s on Saturday announced they would donate a day's worth of their salary to the  COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa created the fund last month, to assist the government's efforts in mitigating the spread of the coronavirus in the country. The announcement by PHI's came days after their union threatened to suspend their services from April 4, citing various demands  including basic safety kits. Among them were to supply PHI officers engaged in efforts to combat COVID-19 with protective gear, transport facilities, food, union President Upul Rohana said. The union had subsequently withdrawn its plans to suspend services following discussions with health minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi.
