Police launch special programme to educate residents on social distancing

COLOMBO (News1st): The Police on Friday evening launched a special programme to entertain and educate residents of Colombo on the importance of social distancing. The Police deployed its musical band to entertain residents of Maradana, in which the third person to die of COVID - 19 had lived, subsequently forcing authorities to impose a quarantine for area residents. The government has imposed an indefinite curfew in Colombo which accounts for 23 percent of the affected cases and has been identified as a high-risk zone for the spread of the virus. "If you develop any symptoms of this disease, do not feel shy or afraid. Inform the nearest police station, and we will do the needful," Ajith Rohana, the DIG in charge of the Motor Traffic Range said. He also urged the public to maintain a distance of one metre while associating with a person in order to minimize the risk of being affected by the virus which has claimed four lives in the country. According to the World Health Organisation, symptoms for coronavirus include fever, tiredness, dry cough, shortness of breath, aches and pains, sore throat and sometimes even diarrhoea, nausea or a runny nose.
