Failure to register for quarantine result in jail

8451 curfew violators arrested

A total of 1093 people were arrested by Sri Lanka Police during the past 24 hours for violating the curfew. During the same time, 310 vehicles were seized. A total of 8451 people were arrested thus far ever since the curfew was imposed with a total of 2078 vehicles being seized. Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana said 16 roadblocks manned by personnel attached to the Police Special Task Force would be set up at 16 entry points to the Colombo city. He added the passes issued to people would be subject to scrutiny at these checkpoints and public assistance is expected. He said the grace period for those who entered Sri Lanka from anywhere in the world after the 16th of March to register with authorities, ends at 12 noon today(01). He added those who fail to register would be prosecuted under the provisions of the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance and the Code of Criminal Procedure. He stressed those who failed to register to immediately call 119 or the nearest police station as well as a new hotline set up for this purpose, 1933. DIG Ajith Rohana noted, those who fail to register will be arrested in raids carried out after obtaining the necessary information from the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration.
