April 21st Attacks, another suspect arrested

COLOMBO (News 1st):- The Criminal Investigations Department arrested the handler of the suicide bomber responsible for the attack in Batticaloa in April last year. The suspect from Mount Lavinia is being probed for his role and also as to who handled him in this process or carrying out the heinous attacks. The Acting IGP had instructed for two separate inquiries be done by the Special Investigations Unit, to ascertain if there was a shortcoming in the part of the detectives and if there was a delay in investigations which were done intentionally. He said if those claims are proven necessary action will be taken under the penal code and police regulations. He said the new detectives will pick up from where the former had left, and continue with the investigations. According to Sri Lanka Police there are 31 suspects detained and interrogated by the Criminal Investigations Department while another 60 suspects are detained and interrogated by the Terrorists Investigations Division. The Police Spokesperson said the suspect arrested today will be detained under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act. According to the Police information at hand claims the suspect was also in contact with the suicide bomber responsible for the attack in Kochchikade and further investigations are underway in to his links with the other bombers.
