Police search for foreigner who had contact with COVID-19 case in Colombo

Colombo (News 1st) Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ajith Rohana said authorities are on the look out for a Foreign National who had made contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19 at a hotel in Colombo.

He disclosed an image of the man in question at the Special Press Conference which took place at the National Operation Center for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak.

Sri Lanka Police also introduced 05 new numbers for people who arrived in the country between the 01st and 15th of March and were not quarantined, to register themselves with authorities.

The numbers are :

In addition an email was also introduced : [email protected]

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ajith Rohana speaking further said, it is not necessary to visit the nearest police station for registration adding 548 people have thus far registered with Police.

Commenting on weddings during this period, the Police DIG advised for organizers to consult the local health officials and minimize gatherings.

DIG Ajith Rohana went on to note, apart from the 02 people who were arrested for spreading false information on social media relating to COVID-19 , 02 more people are being investigated by detectives.

He said these incidents cannot be treated as a normal crime and takes time for detective to trace the exact IP address used to commit the crime, and to conduct further investigations.
