Aviation Chairman announces Airport will not shut down

Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services Retired Major General G. A Chandrasiri said, " there is no requirement for the BIA to be closed". " We will not close down the International Airport. We are continuing our operations under strict supervision",Chandrasiri said He further added, "We have made the necessary arrangements for the passengers to arrive to the island. I do not think there is a need for the airport to be closed down ". He further outlined all passengers arriving in the country from the 13 countries have been placed under a mandatory 2 week quarantine. Vice Chairman, Airport & Aviation Services Sri Lanka Rajeewasiri Sooriyaarachchi higlighted the Cabin Crew will be quarantined under the umbrella of SriLankan Airlines "SriLankan Airlines and the other airlines are taking necessary measures with regard to the quarantine of crew",Sooriyaarachchi said. The Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear and Explosive Wing of the SLAF continued to assist in the quarantine and disinfecting effort with medical teams at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
