Bribery Case against Avant Garde to proceed

Colombo (News 1st) - The Colombo High Court today decided the case filed against Retired Major Nissanka Senadhipathi and Retired Major General Palitha Fernando on the Avant Garde case can be continued.Colombo High Court Judge, Champa Janaki Rajaratne denied the preliminary objection filed by the defense and ordered for the case to be taken up from the 4th of June. The defense raised objections stating the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had filed the case against their clients, without the signatures of the three Commissioners at the Commission. The Colombo High Court Judge pointed out if the commission has granted permission to file the case, in writing, the case can be taken up in court, even without the signatures of the three commissioners. The case was filed against Nissanka Senadhipathi and Palitha Fernando for allegedly soliciting a bribe of 35.5 Million Rupees to grant permission for Avant Garde Maritime Services to operate a floating armory.
