SLPP enters General Election race under the flower bud

Colombo (News 1st) - Former State Minister Susil Premajayantha announced to the media today that the SLPP would contest the General election under the symbol of the flower bud. While noting that the party's General Secretary had conveyed the decision of the party to the elections commission, Premajayantha stated that they are confident that the SLPP could continue its winnings ways during the upcoming general election. The decision has been taken despite being the SLPP forming an alliance under the banner of the Sri Lanka Podujana Nidhahas Alliance. Premajayantha explained that following the general election, the signature of the SLPP general secretary would be accepted during any legal matter. SLFP MEETING Meanwhile, a group of SLFP seniors met at the residence of former parliamentarian Mahinda Amaraweera in Colombo today. SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara and Senior Vice President of the Party Nimal Siripala de Silva were among those who attended the meeting. When questioned whether this was an emergency meeting and what decisions were taken, Amaraweera shrugged off the questions stating that this was a routine meeting and that no decisions were taken on the alliance. SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara speaking to the reporters noted that a decision was reached to summon all party organisers to Colombo on the 11th of this month in order to brief them on how to prepare the nomination lists. He noted that this would be done by former President Maithripala Sirisena and other party seniors. Jayasekara also revealed that former President Sirisena would contest the upcoming election and not seek a national list seat. Jayasekara went onto note that discussions on how the SLFP integrates with the SLPP for the upcoming election would be done quickly through Basil Rajapaksa. He noted that the SLFP 's nomination list would be handed over to Basil Rajapaksa. Meanwhile, SLFP Spokesperson Weerakumara Dissanayake noted that they would not have any issue contesting under the symbol of the flower bud as they supported the same symbol during the Presidential Election.
