21 university students arrested for protesting opposite UGC

COLOMBO (News 1st):- 21 university students including two monks have been arrested for staging a protest using a makeshift tent opposite the University Grants Commission this morning (March 1). The students were arrested under accusations of violating court orders, behaving in a manner oppressive to the public and blocking the road. They are due to be presented before the Aluthkade Magistrate Court today (March 1). The students who conducted a hunger strike today opposite the UGC have been identified as members of the Inter-University Students Federation. The hunger strike was launched centering many issues including the imposition of unfair classes, lack of boarding facilities and requests to uplift the welfare of education.
