COLOMBO (News 1st):- Minister of Justice, Human Rights, and Legal Reforms Nimal Siripala de Silva addressing a gathering in Mahiyanganaya said that he will put forward a bill by next week to re-empower provincial councils.

He said:

“Our provincial councils are defunct. There is no cabinet. As the Justice Minister, I have tabled a cabinet paper seeking to put forward a bill to empower provincial councils once again. Accordingly, two months after the general election, the provincial polls can be held and provincial councils can become active. We can then provide job security through these bodies.”
