Colombo (News 1st): MP J. C. Alawathuwala noted that everyone including Sajith Premadasa and Ranil Wickremesinghe are in very good disposition after having discussions. He said they are hoping to approve all these facts at the Working Committee meeting next Wednesday and face the General Election as a successful alliance.

The Parliamentarian said discussions are underway of determining the symbol under which we are contesting. He stated that according to talks been held so far, it is going to be either the Elephant or the Swan.

Speaking to the media MP Palitha Range Bandara said proposals have been made as of now to contest under the symbol of Swan if we cannot contest under the symbol of the Elephant. Therefore, he added that this has been handed over to the legal department of the party. He said they have been instructed to inquire of this from the Chairman of the National Election Commission and report back to them. He noted that the Working Committee will convene tomorrow. –

Meanwhile, Leader of the National Unity Alliance Azath Salley said the crisis within the UNP is not something new. He pointed out that during the 26-year stay of Ranil Wickremesinghe in the party, the UNP has been in chaos from time to time and now he says to go ahead and form the alliance and to contest from the alliance. He questioned as to how they can contest under the symbol of the elephant? He stressed that when the alliance is formed, the symbol of the elephant will be useless.
