COLOMBO (News 1st):- Various politicians of the government faction commented on the issues centering the alliance to be formed between the SLFP and the SLPP.

Minister of Roads and Highways and Ports & Shipping, Johnston Fernando attending an event in Gampola said, that the opposition is only spreading rumours since there is no problem on their side and that the only issue is within the opposition.

State Minister of Development Banking & Loan Schemes, Shehan Semasinghe said;

“Some people ask under what symbol we’re contesting, we will compete under the symbol that you are expecting. We won two elections under the flower bud. We will definitely win the third election under flower bud. If someone is giving opinions on SLPP don’t forget that it is definitely the people who have deals with the UNP. “

Professor Channa Jayasumana of the Viyathmaga speaking on the matter said;

“We are members of Viyathmaga as well as the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. We are confident that several intellectuals will get nominations from the SLPP in the upcoming general election. The so-called division is an artificial one, realistically there is no such division.”

The State Minister of Public Management & Accounting, Lasantha Alagiyawanna said;

“Especially in the Presidential election, we came to a certain understanding. The bond between the SLPP and SLFP will never be broken , also there are issues regarding the promises made, we can always solve those through discussions.”

Former Chief Minister of the Southern Province, Shan Wijayalal de Silva during an event held in Ambalangoda said;

“Getting a two-thirds majority in the next parliamentary election is our hope. That means 150 seats out of 225. We need to increase our number by 23 seats. Showing our biggest strength in the Presidential election, we got only 127 seats. We will never be able to reach our target if we don’t strengthen the our main forces who were part of us during the triumph at the Presidential election.”

Minister of Environment and Wildlife Resources, S. M. Chandrasena says;

“As a major political party, our party is Pohottuwa. So we should contest under the Flower Bud. I would like to clearly emphasize that the ones who say they cannot contest under the Flower Bud are not fond of the SLPP.”
