Dry weather causes brackish water in rivers

Colombo (News 1st): The Marine Environment Protection Authority warns there is a high possibility of seawater mixing with river water due to the dry weather been experienced at present. General Manager of MEPA Dr. Terney Pradeep Kumara speaking to News 1st said saltwater from the ocean mixing with freshwater from rivers or streams would mostly affect the people living in coastal areas. The Disaster Management Centre said this situation had already affected 218,393 people from 51,162 families in the Kalutara District.
