Accident in Heapola claims life of a newly wed

Colombo (News 1st): A woman learning to drive a three-wheeler died in an accident that occurred in Heapola along the Bibila - Mahiyangana main road today (Feb 4). The motorist of the vehicle explained as to what happened:

"I was taking two foreigners from Galoya to Haputale. When I passed the Bibila roundabout and was driving along the Mahiyanaga road, a three-wheel with an L board came towards me in the opposite direction. Then it suddenly cut across the road collided with my vehicle. I had no time to do anything."

The instructor who was travelling in the three-wheeler was also injured. However, an eyewitness noted that the motor vehicle was driving at high speed and collided into the three-wheeler. Our correspondent said that the victim who died Umeshika Gunathilake is a 26-year-old woman who married 4 days ago. Police have arrested the driver of the vehicle and are carrying out further investigations.
