Rs. 3,830 Mn released for State Paddy Purchasing Program

COLOMBO (News 1st):- A sum of Rs. 3,830 million has been released from the treasury for the state Paddy Purchasing Program. The Ministry of Finance, Economic and Policy Development states that this money was released to the Paddy Marketing Board and District Secretariats. During the Maha season this year, the government decided to purchase a kilogram of paddy at a minimum price of Rs. 50 while a kilogram of moist paddy was to be purchased at Rs. 44. As per the state initiative, 1000kg of paddy will be purchased form a farmer who cultivated an acre while 3000kg of paddy will be purchased by farmers who cultivate between 1-5 acres. 5000kg of paddy will be purchased from all farmers who cultivate 5 acres.
