Ranil to remain UNP leader

COLOMBO (News 1st):- The UNP working committee meeting chaired by Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Sirikotha party headquarters ended a short while ago. In protest against the decision to remove Ajith P. Perera, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Imitiaz Bakeer Markar and Rosy Senanayake from their positions in the Working Committee, a number of other senior UNP MPs decided to boycott today's meeting. Speaking to the media, following the meeting UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that it was decided to appoint Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa as the Prime Ministerial candidate of the alliance.
