Navy arrests 4 Indian nationals for smuggling gold

Colombo (News 1st) - The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 04 Indian nationals with a stock of gold being smuggled via sea, during a patrol conducted in the sea area off Kudiramalai on 29th January 2020. The Navy discovered 41 gold biscuits being concealed on a suspicious fishing vessel. The gold biscuits weighed 04kg and 200g. The Indian nationals that were taken into custody are between the ages of 30 and 50 years. The vessel used for the smuggling of gold has also been seized by the Navy. The apprehended suspects together with gold were handed over to the Customs Office of Sinnapadu According to the Navy media unit, the Navy has seized a total of 11kg and 695g of gold that was being smuggled into the country in 2019
