SL Presidential Election Act must be revised: EU

Colombo (News 1st): The European Union, Election Observation Mission points out that the present presidential elections act must be revised. This was revealed when the mission presented its final report, during a media briefing in Colombo yesterday (Jan 24). The EU election observation mission said the presidential elections act must be revised to remove ambiguity, harmonize terminology with most recent laws, and avoid the potential for conflicting interpretations. In addition, the mission includes six recommendations to further empower the National Election Commission in Sri Lanka. It added, Sri Lanka must adapt a law on campaign financing and campaign expenditure and revise the law to ensure equal campaign opportunities to all candidates.
