Colombo (News 1st): A forum themed financial and management accounting for the development of SMEs was held in Colombo today (Jan 24). The event was graced by several experts representing various fields. The keynote address was delivered by the Senior Advisor on Economic Affairs to the Prime Minister, Ajith Nivard Cabraal. He noted;
"90% of the businesses of the world are SME driven and Sri Lanka is no different. We are also keen than SME's are promoted. The idea is there is enough money in the hands of people, to be able to provide themselves with services, so that those providing the services, will have income. So that consumer demand is once again brought back into focus. Even the farmer must have access to technology. I want to assure that in order to develop SME's, we must have modest taxes. This is why very high tax rates were cut to stimulate the economy."
