Police begins investigations on News 1st provincial reporter's attack

COLOMBO (News 1st):- The Police notes that an investigation is underway after News 1st provincial reporter Prasad Poornimal received threats following his report on an incident regarding an unauthorized filling of a paddy field at Wennappuwa. His report was based on information received from the area residents. Unauthorized filling of a paddy field in the Gin-Oya reservoir in Wennapuwa South had occurred many times and even though the area residents have reported this to the officials, no action was taken. The area residents noted that due to the ongoing filling, the Wennapuwa town had been flooded as well. Since a solution was not provided for this, the area residents had informed News 1st provincial reporter of the matter. However, during his news coverage last evening (January 17) a group at the location had threatened him. Prasad Poornimal is currently receiving treatment. Speaking to News 1st he said that one of them had even held a pistol at him and had failed to provide documents related to approval for the gun as well. A complaint was lodged with the Wennappuwa Police. It is informed that the suspect had fled the area and an investigation is underway.
