Ranjan Ramanayake arrested once again

Colombo (News 1st): Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake was once again arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division today (January 14). Attorney General Dappula de Livera ordered the Colombo Crimes Division to obtain a warrant for the arrest of MP Ranjan Ramanayake this evening. Based on the order, the CCD arrested Ranjan Ramanayake at the Madiwela MPs' Housing Complex after obtaining a warrant from the Nugegoda Magistrate Court. MP Ranjan Ramanayake was arrested over the charges of hindering the judicial process after evidence of doing so surfaced on social media. At the time when the officials of the Colombo Crimes Division entered the MP's house, he has been on Facebook carrying out a live stream on social media.

Ranjan's UNP membership temporarily suspended

Meanwhile, UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayake's party membership has been temporarily suspended. General Secretary of the UNP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam noted that the UNP has decided to temporarily suspend Gampaha district MP Ranjan Ramanayaka's party membership considering the multiple complaints lodged by party members. He added that the decision was also presented to the party working committee for approval. He noted that they made the decision after considering the numerous statements made and the situation of judicial and state officials. When questioned about MP Ranjan Ramanayake's parliamentary seat, MP Kariyawasam noted that legal action will be taken following the suspension of his party membership. He noted that since the parliament will be dissolved within 1 and a half months, his seat will automatically be gone.

Ranjan's response

Meanwhile, MP Ranjan Ramanayaka commented about the suspension of his party membership, on Facebook today. The post said that he was expelled from the United National Party for carrying out a lone battle against thieves, murderers, and criminals irrespective of their differences.
