COLOMBO (News 1st) - A special party meeting chaired by the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was held at the parliament today (January 14). According to our Parliamentary correspondent, the Attorney General's expert opinion about the possibility of providing the reports of the forensic audit made on the Central Bank's bond issuing process to the parliamentarians who are not in the COPE was discussed at the meeting. The Party Leaders meeting began at 11.30 am today. Party Leaders and representatives decided to make nominations and selections with regard to the composition of Committees in Parliament at today's meeting. The Speaker has informed all present to make nominations formally to the General Secretary of the Parliament by 3:00 pm on Thursday. The proposal to this effect will be added to the Parliamentary agenda on the 21st of next month. Meanwhile, it was also decided that Parliament be convened for a session between 1 pm and 6.30 pm on the 21st and 22nd of January, and again between 10.30 am and 6.30 pm on the 23rd and 24th of January. Meanwhile, former General Secretary of the UNP Tissa Attanayake shared his thoughts regarding the importance of remaining together and moving forward as a party. "I think that the people who support the party should think of how to solve this issue and move forward together. Everyone should sit at one table and decide on this matter. If this issue is not resolved next Thursday it will definitely affect the upcoming general election. But there is another solution to this. Talks are on regarding a broad alliance. That does not mean the establishment of a new party. It is essential to form a broad alliance against the government. I believe that Sajith Premadasa should lead such an alliance and provide political leadership to the country and ensure victory at the next election."
